Official farm credit and insurance in the Philippines

Before you borrow, it is worth knowing about the government programs for farmers. REALM is not part of these programs; ask the offices below what you qualify for.

Government farm credit

The Department of Agriculture’s Agricultural Credit Policy Council (ACPC) runs low-interest loan programs for small farmers and fisherfolk, released through Landbank and partner lenders such as cooperatives and rural banks.

Crop and livestock insurance

The Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation (PCIC) insures rice, corn, high-value crops, livestock and farm machinery against typhoons, floods, drought and pests. Registered farmers in the RSBSA list may qualify for free insurance cover.

Register in the RSBSA

Many programs ask that you are listed in the Registry System for Basic Sectors in Agriculture (RSBSA). Your municipal or city agriculture office can help you register.

Read before you sign

Ask for the full cost of a loan in pesos, including fees, and the repayment dates. Make sure repayments fall after your harvest, not before.
